Poland’s national public debt reached PLN 2.0082 trillion at the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to the Ministry of Finance. That was PLN 94.6 billion, or 4.9%, above the level recorded at the end of 2025.

What to know

The broader general-government debt measure used for the EU fiscal framework stood at PLN 2.4443 trillion, up PLN 109.1 billion, or 4.7%, over the same period. The two figures are not interchangeable: they use different institutional coverage and accounting rules, so comparisons should stay within the same series.

A quarterly increase does not by itself establish the full-year trajectory. The important follow-up indicators are borrowing needs, interest costs, nominal GDP and the fiscal balance, alongside the next ministry release scheduled for 10 September. For investors and taxpayers, the composition and servicing cost of debt matter alongside the headline stock.
