Krakow selected winners in two international mural competitions initiated by the city’s mural team. The winning works are planned for municipal buildings at Al. Kijowska 50 and ul. Tadeusza Kosciuszki 18, with implementation expected in autumn.
What to know
The first project marks the Year of Andrzej Wajda. Bartosz Podlewski’s “Wajda in black and white” was chosen from a field of 28 submitted designs, 27 of which were assessed. The mural is planned for a side elevation at Al. Kijowska 50.
The second competition asked artists to interpret Slavic mythology through Krakow’s history and setting near the Vistula and Wawel. Wiktor Paprocki’s “Konik Zwierzyniecki” topped a field of 34 submissions. Together, the projects point to a more curated public-art policy rather than one-off wall decoration.
