Poland AI school labs: the delivery phase is the real test

Poland is moving its school AI programme from announcement into delivery. The government says 12,000 artificial-intelligence laboratories are going to primary and secondary schools, with equipment deliveries already under way and planned to continue into the second half of July.

The scale is large: the official package describes laptops for students and teachers, a central unit for AI services, network equipment, an interactive monitor, camera and microphone, and specialised software. The funding figure attached to school AI labs is PLN 1.86 billion gross from the National Recovery Plan and state budget, within a wider education digitisation envelope of more than PLN 5 billion for 2024-2026.

The policy test now shifts from procurement to daily use. Schools will need teacher training, clear rules for assessment, habits around source checking and a way to include students who may not have the same digital support at home. Hardware can open the door, but classroom practice will decide whether AI becomes a useful tool or just another unevenly used technology.
