Poland 2026 should be judged by the women's football habits it leaves behind

FIFA framed Poland's U-20 Women's World Cup as another major event after the country hosted the men's U-20 World Cup in 2019. The comparison is useful, but it should not become the only measure of success.

A youth women's tournament has a different legacy question. It is not only whether stadium operations run smoothly. It is whether girls see a pathway, whether local clubs get coverage, whether host cities keep programming after the final and whether media treat women's football as normal sport rather than novelty.

For a Krakow-based publication, that means covering the tournament from outside the host-city map as well. The national event should feed local questions: where girls play, who coaches, how families travel to matches and what football culture looks like when the spotlight moves on.
