Krakow's System Informacji Miejskiej is a wayfinding project, but it is also a design argument about how a historic city should explain itself. ZTP says the goal is to organise urban signage under consistent graphic and design rules.
What to know
The system is broad: street-name boards, address plates, entry signs, driver direction signs, pedestrian totems, local maps and information modules are all part of the manual. That breadth matters because residents and visitors read the city through small repeated cues.
The cultural detail is that SIM does not try to look generic. ZTP describes colours and typography that refer to Krakow's landscape and historical address plates while keeping readability and contrast. In a crowded visitor city, good signs are a public service.
