Poland’s alert levels through 31 August: what they mean and what they do not

Poland’s Government Centre for Security says several alert levels remain in force until 23:59 on 31 August 2026. BRAVO, the second level in the national scale, applies across Poland. BRAVO-CRP applies to public-administration and critical-infrastructure cyber systems. A separate CHARLIE level, the third level, applies to railway lines managed by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe and PKP Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa. The orders also cover Polish energy infrastructure located outside the country.

What to know

The labels are easy to misread as a forecast that a specific incident will happen. Their main function is operational. The official guidance describes alert levels as signals for services and public administration to increase readiness, checks, staffing, protection of public facilities, transport security, and continuity arrangements. The exact tasks differ by level and by whether the alert concerns physical security or information systems.

For an ordinary resident or visitor, BRAVO does not automatically close borders, cancel trains, prohibit public events, or instruct everyone to remain at home. It can make additional checks more visible at transport hubs, government buildings, schools, or protected facilities. The railway-specific CHARLIE order concerns the responsible operators and services; any passenger-facing timetable or access change should still be confirmed through the railway operator’s own current notice.

What it means

The useful public behaviour is proportionate. Keep baggage with you, follow instructions at controlled entrances, allow time for checks, and report an immediate danger through 112. A suspicious unattended package should be reported rather than touched. Cybersecurity precautions remain ordinary but important: verify unexpected messages, avoid opening unknown attachments, and use official channels when a message claims to come from a public institution.

Alert levels can be extended, changed, or cancelled by a new order. This article explains the orders published for the period ending 31 August; it is not a live security warning.
