Krakow opens a third recycling point with repair and reuse

Krakow has opened its third municipal selective-waste collection point at Igołomska 17A. The facility is available to residents from across the city, but its eastern location is intended to improve access for Nowa Huta, Mistrzejowice, Bieńczyce and Wzgorza Krzeslawickie, an area the city says is home to about 163,000 people.

What to know

The new site goes beyond standard collection of electronics, hazardous waste, rubble and furniture. It includes a repair point, an exchange area for usable objects and clothes, an automated packaging station, and collection boxes for small problematic items such as expired medicines and used syringes.

Use is free for residents who can show confirmation that the municipal waste-management fee has been paid; business waste is not accepted. That distinction matters before loading a vehicle. The project is also part of a broader recycling centre in Nowa Huta, giving the city a practical test of whether reuse can divert functioning items from the waste stream.
